What is a cenosphere?
Cenospheres are hollow aluminosilicate microspheres separated from fly ash produced by coal-fired power stations. They are small, lightweight spheres with thin walls and hollow interiors.
The hollow structure allows intact cenospheres to float on water. When discussing a density requirement, always specify the type of density and its units.
Low weight and insulation begin with the structure
Appropriate grade selection and formulation can help reduce product weight and improve thermal insulation. Applications include insulating riser sleeves, lightweight refractories, insulating building materials, coatings, rubber, plastics and resin-based composites.
Material selection should reflect the conditions of use. Confirm the properties and suitability of a grade using its relevant documentation and sample testing.
How should the published example values be read?
Qianjia's introductory article gives a bulk density of approximately 0.30-0.45 g/cm³ for some products: roughly 300-450 grams per litre of material. This is an example of bulk density for selected products.
The article also mentions refractoriness above 1600°C for some grades. This is neither a specification for every product nor a continuous service temperature. Confirm the particular grade and test method when selecting material.

Frequently asked questions
Are cenospheres used only in riser sleeves?
No. Applications include foundry products, refractories, building materials, coatings, rubber, plastics and composites. Select a grade to suit the formulation.
Can I choose a product by colour alone?
Consider sample appearance together with the application, particle size, density and other material requirements. Confirm suitability using grade information or sample testing.
